Hello and welcome to our new website!

Since the launch of our first website back in 2012, Miscellaneous Adventures has grown from an online store selling hand carved spoons into a multi-faceted project. Alongside the store, we now also run a design studio, teach and host woodland workshops, look after the grounds and woodland where we live and work on countryside management and conservation projects locally. We have taken the multi hyphen career to the extreme.

As sprawling as all this sounds, there is one thing that ties everything together and unifies our work: our relationship with Nature. Over the last couple of years in particular, we have noticed that the way we think about Nature influences every facet of our life and work so we decided we needed to make sure our website reflected that. In what has been a tumultuous year, we have add extra time to reflect on who we are, what our focus should be moving forward and what makes what we do worthwhile.

So what’s new?

The Shop is no longer front and centre on the site. This reflects our biggest change - moving away from being a ‘outdoors brand’ and more towards becoming a voice for Nature connection. Just over a year ago we took the decision to stop selling outsourced merchandise, focusing on our range of tools and woodenware instead. Now we have scaled that back even further and the store will be updated with new items as and when we make them, allowing the process to be more organic, influenced by the seasons and the dictated by the availability of materials. We’ve added a fresh batch of hand carved spoons and birch coffee cups to the new store, all made from wood gathered from the woods at home. In time, we also hope to add products from other makers and craftspeople who also take their inspiration from Nature; if that sounds like you then let us know!

We’ve updated our Workshop pages to include a totally new workshop ‘Woodland Connections Walk and Talk’ which we will be running regularly. This half day workshop will be an opportunity to join us in the woods and delve more deeply into the wonders of trees, interconnectivity in woodlands and the whole of Nature. One of our favourite things about our workshops has been the chance to open people's eyes and imaginations to the natural world and we're excited to have a whole workshop dedicated to doing just that. To find out more click here. Once it is safe to do so, we will be releasing new dates (hopefully for Spring 2021) for all of our courses and you can register interest by clicking on the course you would like to attend here. Importantly, we’ve added an FAQ page to the workshops info detailing accessibility to the site and facilities available on the day. We’ve are also now offering two ‘pay what you can afford’ places on every workshop we run. We know first hand that cost can often be a restrictive factor for many people wanting to learn new skills, so this is our way of trying to address that. More details here.

There are some new design projects over on our Studio page and a new ‘Inside the Studio’ section where you can read more about our design process and ethos. We’ve also added a photography section to our portfolio which collects some of our previous projects and we welcome enquires from brands, publications and individuals who would be interested in working with us.

There are lots more updates (a new Conservation page for example) and we have a few more things to come very soon. We’d love to hear any feedback and we’d love it if you passed on our new site to anyone you know who might like it.

Thanks to everyone for their support and kind words, especially those who have followed us since the launch of our first website way back 2012. Extra special thanks go to Another Escape, Protect Blue and Vicki Turner for their insights and edits on our latest site and for helping us figure out where we’re going…
