Something Good - A creative weekend in Bristol

This weekend we were honoured to take part 'Something Good' design festival in Bristol. Set over two days and organised by Thread Bristol, the festival aimed to provide creative inspiration through a series of lectures on the Friday and workshops on Saturday. We were there to teach woodcarving but other available activities included plasticine portraits with Wilfrid Wood and Letterpress with Anthony Burill. Fine company to be in.

This was to be our first indoor workshop, usually at our most comfortable teaching outdoors the woods, we were a little apprehensive as to how it would work. Lucklily, the venue chosen by Thread couldn't have been better. The Forge is a beautiful space in Colston Yard run by Silkie Lloyd. Used as a space for workshops, talks, feasts, gatherings and much more, it is beautifully designed with lots of natural light, exposed brick walls and plenty of wooden features to make us feel at home, it served as the perfect location for our first foray into the indoors.

We taught two, three hour long workshops to a bunch of great folks mainly from creative backgrounds, most of whom had never worked with wood before. Due to the shorter length of the courses, we had prepared an axed out spoon blank for each student and taught them how to turn it into a finished spoon using only a knife and crook knife.

We had a wonderful time teaching and meeting such a great bunch of folks and would like to give a huge thanks to the guys at Thread, particularly Ben and Marj, for inviting us and organising the event. It certainly was Something very Good indeed.
