Welcome to the Logbook, a place for us to share our adventures, outdoor knowledge and campfire recipes, along with insights into the way we make our products and the work we do around our woodland studio. For regular updates be sure to find us on Substack.

Micro Hiking Hatchet

The axe was the tool that set us on our journey into woodworking and forestry. The skills it taught us gave us a sense of self reliance in the great outdoors and shaped the way we view the landscape. Many years later we're delighted to have our very own model of this wonderful outdoor tool and we're excited to be able to share it with you.

The Micro Hiking Hatchet is designed to provide much of the functionality of the axe whilst being small, light and manageable enough to take on regular hiking and camping excursions. With a 7cm hand forged head and 30cm solid ash handle it can easily be stowed in a rucksack when not in use

The axe is typically thought of as a tool for simply splitting firewood and felling trees, but with skill and the right approach you may be surprised at what an axe can do; preparing food, processing fuel and tinder, making functional items and setting up camp are all made easier with the help of this trusty tool.

Once again, we worked with blacksmith Alex Pole who hand forged a very limited run of axe heads for us based on our design. We then hand carved the handles and made each axe its own leather sheath; the handles are carved from ash felled here in our woodland and the sheaths from British veg tan leather.

We're happy to say that the hatchets are now available to buy on our store, we hope you like them as much as we do!
