Dutch Oven Camp Fire Pizza

Posted by Emma Hughes on

Everyone loves pizza, right? So what's not to love about pizza cooked in a dutch oven on a campfire?! Perfect. It's super easy to make and really delicious, we highly recommend giving this a try.

Dutch Oven Camp Fire Pizza

You will need:

Dutch Oven
Spatula
Pizza Dough (or ready made pizza bases).
Tomato Sauce (store bought or your own secret recipe).
Grated Mozzarella Cheese
Toppings of your choice. We made 2 pizzas and used salami & jalapenos and prosciutto ham & olives
Olive oil (optional)

Method:

Pre-heat your seasoned dutch oven on the fire. Once hot, take it off the heat and move some of the embers from the fire to one side and prep your pizza. We used dough we had made ourselves but you could use store bought bases. Add the base directly to the bottom of the oven followed by tomato sauce, cheese and then the toppings of your choice. Drizzle with a little olive oil if required. Put the lid back on the oven and set it on the embers you moved out from the main fire, then add some more embers to the lid of the oven so it's completely covered. Leave for five minutes. Carefully lift off the lid using a hook or handle and check that the base is cooked (it should easily lift from the bottom of the oven in one piece with a spatula) if it's still a bit soggy, leave it for a little longer and keep checking until it's crisp. Once you are happy that the base is done, move the oven off the heat but leave the embers on the lid. Let them sit there for another 10 minutes until the toppings are crisp and the cheese is fully melted. Remove the lid, slide the pizza out onto a plate or board and eat. Enjoy!
